“Last Chance Blues” is a rather morose (even for a blues song) account of Cannon’s struggles with his reckless woman, and how he must lug his frustrated heart out to the streets looking for answers. A beautiful recording, circa 1929, that teaches us that you can’t control your woman. But you can cry on the shoulders of a banjo and harmonica, while you wail your sorrows into the Delta.
