Charlie Poole and his brother-in-law, fiddler Posey Rorer formed a trio with guitarist Norman Woodlieff called the North Carolina Ramblers. They auditioned for Columbia Records and got a contract. They released a single in 1925 that sold over 100,000 copies. They were paid $75.
